Dance Partners, Building a Better Bracket. A bracketology presentation by EC Hood

A bracketology presentation by EC Hood

We’ve decided to beat the Bubble Watch to market and present the first bracketology of the 2041-42 season. It’s always tough trying to figure who is deserving this early in the season, but there is a picture emerging as we are about a month into conference play.

There is a lot of competition for the four No. 1 seeds, but it appears from where we are sitting that Notre Dame, Texas, Gonzaga and Baylor should be placed on the perches for now.

North Carolina, USC and several others are making cases as well. There will be lots of fluctuation over the next month.

South Dakota State is the mid major making the most noise at 19-1, and thus they are sitting on the 2 line. Very impressive, and the Jackrabbits should be able to keep it up in a Summit League that doesn’t seem to boast any serious threats at this time.

Arkansas Pine Bluff is the biggest AI surprise, coming in at 17-2 and 11 in the NET. We’re still not ready to give them huge props as they lack signature wins. The Golden Lions are an 8 seed for now and their season can truly go in any direction from here on out.

AI is also represented among the at-large teams by Wichita State, Miami (FL), Arizona State, UAB and Colorado. Not a shocking list when you consider four of those five were human-owned juggernauts as recently as last season.

Things are sure to change a lot in the next CBGM month and a half, which is less than a week in our time. We’ll post a few more of these later in the season. Good luck everyone!

EC Hood recently joined CBGM after many years playing DDSCB solo and running alt-history postseason tournaments using spreadsheets and Tournament Maker. When not dreaming of an editable bracket in the game and/or annoying Gary Gorski with the request, EC is the CBGM head coach of Rhode Island, Stanford, Alabama & Akron. For a while in the real world, he was a stats/PR guy at several NCAA Division I college athletic departments.
